I finally got back to another Spring Brook Landing painting. Hopefully the folks at SBL are patient, it’s been a year since I did their last one!

Old World Privy
This past summer we went out to Old World Wisconsin. I was going bonkers with all the painting subjects everywhere I turned. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get out there this fall for more photos. Maybe they will let me live there and paint : )
It's In The Barn
This is from an older photo, this barn has probably sagged even more by now. I drive past this one quite often actually, it’s one of my favorites.
Camrock Colors
This is an entry spot of one of the many bike trails at Camrock, I guess I was in the mood for some palette knife on this one.
Camrock Ride
I started big with this series of Camrock paintings. Camrock Park is our beautiful local park that stretches along the Koshkonong River. It’s filled with bike trails and very popular with mountain bikers.
Winter Chill
Just had to do one more of these mini winter landscapes. We just had out first snow yesterday, time to get the camera out!

Winter Walks
The third of my little square landscape series. Finally some snow! I haven’t painted snow in quite awhile, it’s nice to get away from the greens for a bit. Now back to fall for my next painting.
Tree & Stone

I was in the mood for something a little different. This was actually from pictures taken back in March on a cloudy day. I’ve been painting mostly high key for quite awhile now… after doing a series of these more somber scenes, I’m really gaining a new appreciation for subtlety.

Big Bite
Big Bite
5″ x 5″, oil
5″ x 5″, oil
It’s sort of embarrassing, but I have trouble eating these big end pieces–sometimes I have to dissect them to get them down (horrors!). Still… yum!

This little one was an experiment with a smooth gesso board. I think I still prefer canvas–but it’s fun to try new stuff.
Pasture Pals - SOLD

These two sheep were fun to photograph, they were so curious about what I was doing. Thanks to my friend Grace who let me come out to her farm and take pictures.

Mom and I went up to Door County last week to catch a bit of the Plein Air event going on. It was wonderful to see so many skilled artists from around the country all in one place! It got me motivated to get out of the studio and do some plein air again. I set up this morning at the end of my driveway, being overcast today made it a bit easier to work–even the bugs held off!
Field & Prairie
On Roger’s property in late summer last year. I can’t get enough of this little oasis of birch trees.
Summer Shade
It seems I’ve unintentionally done a series of landscapes from photos I’ve taken on our neighbor’s property–not surprising I guess, since there are so many pretty areas on his land. Marshes, woods, prairie, ponds, barns, and fields. Too bad he doesn’t have some cows or chickens.
Happy as a Pig – SOLD
Another Schuster’s Farm critter. This guy seemed very happy to be taking the lead in the pig races.
Schuster Rooster
oil, 9x12
This handsome young rooster was wandering our local play farm. These chicken paintings are really fun. I hope to have a few more ready for the summer art shows.
Bantam Dance - SOLD
Bantam Dance
oil, 8 x 10
oil, 8 x 10
I caught this little bantam hen stretching her wings as she ran past our flower garden. Sun, flowers, and happy hens–I’m really looking forward to some warm weather.
Autumn Show Off
Bigger than my usual work, but it’s nice to stretch out a bit sometimes. This pretty oak lives on hill not far from our home, it put all the other nearby trees to shame last fall.
Blue Moon – SOLD
This painting was inspired by our little dog Luna, we adopted her on the same day I painted this. It’s a bit of a long story, but it involves a promise to my daughter and a blue moon last August.
Winter Birch
Oil, 9″ x 12″
After a holiday break from painting, I was able to get back in the groove again. I was too lazy to prep a canvas so I just grabbed an old gessoed board for this one. The textures make for some different effects in the sky.
Waterside Wait – SOLD
12″ x 16″, oil
The past few painting days have been a bit crazy. I’ve been diving into the very uncomfortable waters of portrait painting, I’m discovering just how brutally unforgiving portraits can be. This painting is from the Spring Brook Landing photos I took last summer. I actually painted it a few weeks back and finally put some finishing touches on today. I’m also getting ready for the Cambridge Arts Council’s first Pop Up Gallery coming up the first weekend in December.
October Surprise – SOLD
Mom shared a bunch of her beautiful fall photos with me, they were lucky enough to get in some fall camping in the Minoqua area. I was surprised at how loose this one came out, I think all the colors made me a little slap happy with the palette knife.
Grass Fed – SOLD
8″ x 10″, oil
One of my favorite bike routes goes past this beautiful pasture where I often see a few happy cows grazing, or lounging under big old oak trees. A site like this is unfortunately not all that common even in Wisconsin, since most cows are confined to big barns or muddy paddocks these days. I hope to get a few more pictures of these cows before the grass is covered by snow!
Still September – SOLD
8″ x 14″, oil
Last Friday I finally got out for some “en plein air”, the weather has been great. I think this is the most beautiful fall we’ve had in years. The colors are just insane, even the scrubby weeds on the sides of the road are just gorgeous. If I didn’t have a life I’d be painting non-stop. I have at least been taking lots of pictures, so when it gets cold and gray maybe I can revisit this wonderful fall.
This palette knife painting was done on my neighbor Rodger’s property, it’s about a 10 minute walk down Casey’s mtn. bike trail that opens up to acres of pretty praire and fields. I’m so lucky that it is so close!
Turk’s Cap – SOLD
This is another requested piece. A fan of unique lilies asked me to paint a floral for him. I haven’t painted a lot of florals (I think I can count the number on one hand), but I’m hoping he approves.
Lake Mills Art Fair
Last Saturday I set up at the Lake Mills Art Fair. Good people and good weather made it a great time. I have to give a big thanks to all of my Lake Mills friends who are incredibly supportive, not just of me but our local arts community. My husband was also a huge help, and even provided live music–just for my booth. I’m so lucky : )
Cooler In The Shade – SOLD
This was a good exercise for getting back into painting after a summer break. One of the folks I met at the Lake Mills Art Fair invited me out to take photos at their home. Kurt and I took a bunch of pictures of the beautiful lake and trails throughout their property. I’ll be doing more of this “Spring Brook Landing” series in the next month or so.
