Yellow Cones

Yellow Cones

The nature preserve near my home is bursting with wildflowers right now. The prairie was burned earlier this year and everything has really taken off. The grasses are towering overhead and the mowed trail feels like a tunnel of flowers--the smell is amazing!

For these a parked next to my flower garden to paint.

Summer Cone Flowers

I love flowers, just really dislike painting them. I really had to suppress my flower anxiety to tackle this series of wildflower studies. I did really enjoy trying to capture that amazing mix of colors in the central part of the cone flowers.

I think this was a horror movie title, THIS not so scary. Just a happy little trail into a deep dark woods right?

I found this guy hiding while I was framing all the other new paintings. Finally got it photographed and ready to frame. Last one before my first art fair of the season coming up in Lake Mills next weekend.

Oak Path

Oak Path

There are so many trails around here that look like this I can't figure out which path this is!

Ah, my old stand by--love those grasses and bits of snow!

I often gravitate to those blue skies, but occasionally I like to find the beauty in a gloomier scene.

At The Lake & One Tree Hill

These diptych paintings (I prefer to call them "buddy" paintings) are new for me. It was a fun challenge to find subjects would work compositionally whether hanging solo or together.

I found this mailbox at the end of an old driveway leading to a spooky old abandon farm house.

One in my series of small paintings and one of MANY idyllic farmsteads of the driftless area.

Roadside Barn

I've often biked past this barn on Hwy C and taken a number of photos. Now that I've finally painted it maybe I can get past without stopping!

Winter Moonrise

Winter Moonrise
9" x 12", oil

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE palette knife painting. I was actually a little disappointed that I was done with it so quick--it was so fun! This is a photo that Kurt took on his phone (he probably doesn't even know that I stole it from him). I needed a moon picture for the 2016 "Over the Moon" Gala event coming up next month. I'll be donating this for the auction--let's hope is dry in time!

Autumn Pastoral

Cows on grass just make me happy. I'm always complaining that they are too often stuck in muddy paddocks and in the barn. Gotta love a cow out in the sunshine.
