This painting was inspired by an old black and white photo of a 1938 20th Century Limited train engine in Chicago. My assignment was to do something Art Deco inspired and my husband is a fan of these old “streamlined” engines of the 20’s and 30’s. This one will be auctioned this weekend at the Cambridge Arts Council’s fundraiser gala event. It was fun adding a bit of a tri-tone feel to a black and white image. This was also my first real painting done in acrylics. I actually really enjoyed it, I had to really work fast before the paint dried on my palette. I think I’m going to try the acrylics outdoors when it warms up a bit.
