I'm back, with cupcakes!

Sprinkles Please
6 x 8, oil

Karin's cupcake challenge (for DSFDF) felt perfect for sliding back into painting mode. I haven't painted since last April (what can I say... work happened, then summer happened). This one was really fun. I wasn't sure how I'd handle the sprinkles, so I ignored them til the end. I ended up using a small nail and dipping the nail head into the paint to sorta stamp them on. Too fun!!

The pink background is magenta acrylic paint that I used as an underpainting.

  1. Wow, what a great idea for doing the sprinkles! Leave it to the daughter of a carpenter to come up with that idea! I love the bright magenta border, it really compliments the sprinkles.

I can see you had no problem getting back into the painting mode. Great job, Carrie!

  11. The idea with using a nail for the sprinkles was really clever, and it came out well. I love how lush and loose your version looks.

  13. Carrie - good to see your work again. I love the way you use white - I have noticed this in your other works on this blog and white is a big favourite of mine. Nice work.

  14. I am having so much fun finding all the cupcakes. I found yours today... not from the Different Strokes.... etc. but from your mother's blog... which I found on Dana Cooper's blog. My my... I must spend entirely too much time enjoying other's paintings when I should be at my own easel painting.

    Great job on the cupcakes.
