Mud Lake

Mud Lake 1
6" x 8", oil

Mom and I drove around last Sunday taking photos. It was perfect weather and I fell in love with this frozen entry point on Mud Lake. I'd love do some plein air painting here if I get a chance.

After painting this late last night I thought it was a total disaster, but with a fresh eye in the morning it didn't look too bad.

  1. Fresh eye wins! I enlarged the image and loved your brush strokes you used to render the snow. That little pier/bridge is perfect!

  2. Your painting really captures what I saw that day at Mud Lake. The boardwalk looks great with the footprints in the snow. You did a nice job on the highlights, love your colors and contrast between warm and cool. Great job Carrie! Mom

  5. Super painting, Carrie. Even though from a photo, you have achieved the fresh look of a plein air. Well done!

  6. Thanks everyone for the nice comments! My usual Thursday night studio time will be hijacked by a middle school band concert, but maybe I'll be able to paint again this weekend...
